From Broadway To The Big Screen

The Great White Way has produced many a wonderful story over the years whether it be in the form of a musical or a play and many have been adapted for film. Here are some stories that went from Broadway to the Big Screen.

West Side Story: This is a modernized telling of Romeo and Juliet and is set in the mid-1950s Upper West Side of NYC. With music by Leonard Bernstein and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, the original production premiered in 1957 and a film adaptation was released in 1961. The film adaptation still holds the record for the most Oscars won by a musical and a remake is set to be released in 2021 starring Ansel Elgort and directed by Steven Spielberg.
