Let's start with a classic Broadway to big screen adaptation: West Side Story. This is a modernized telling of Romeo and Juliet and is set in the mid-1950s Upper West Side of NYC.
From Broadway To The Big Screen
With music by Leonard Bernstein and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, the original production premiered in 1957 and a film adaptation was released in 1961.
The film adaptation still holds the record for the most Oscars won by a musical and a remake was released in 2021 starring Ansel Elgort and directed by Steven Spielberg. And then there is the indisputable classic, The Sound of Music...
