All those who wanted to see "Rachel", "Monica", "Phoebe", "Joey", "Chandler" and "Ross" reunited in the same room will have to wait a little longer. Faced with the worsening of the Coronavirus pandemic in the United States, Warner Media decided to indefinitely delay the recording of a reunion special with the cast of Friends: Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, Matthew Perry and David Schwimmer. According to reports, the long-awaited event is no longer one of the company's immediate priorities for its new video platform, HBO Max.

HBO Max indefinitely delays the Friends reunion

Just a few days after revealing that Friends is one of the most-watched titles on its recently released streaming platform, HBO Max announced that the highly anticipated reunion of the cast is postponed indefinitely.

The special was announced in February with the plan to film in March and a premiere date at the end of May. This was one of the major promotional events for the new streaming platform from Warner Media (which owns the rights to the series): HBO Max.

However, the onset of the pandemic forced the company to postpone its plans. Although they were optimistic that they could restart production of the reunion special this month, the worsening of the health crisis caused by the Coronavirus caused Warner to decide to postpone the recording with live audiences until further notice.

According to US press reports, the reunion of the cast of Friends with series creators Kevin Bright, Marta Kauffman, and David Crane is no longer in the immediate plans of the platform.

"It's very sad that we had to move it again"

Earlier this month Jennifer Aniston spoke about her feelings concerning the constant delays of the exciting project with her former colleagues.

"Unfortunately it’s very sad that we had to move it again," the actress told Deadline, before declaring that delay was the best option given the current situation the world is going through. "It was, 'How do we do this with live audiences?' This is not a safe time. Period. That’s the bottom line. It’s not a safe time to do it."

It's not all bad news for Aniston as she was nominated this year for an Emmy for her work in The Morning Show. She also made sure to reassure fans that another delay doesn't mean a cancellation.

"This has also given us more time to make it even more exciting and more fun than it would have been. So I choose to see it as the glass is half-full that it got postponed. Look, we’re not going anywhere. You’re never going to get rid of Friends, sorry. You’re stuck with us for life guys," concluded the actress.
