To younger generations, MacGyver is almost better known through its place in pop culture. The show and star Richard Dean Anderson are known as the obsession of "Patty" and "Selma" on The Simpsons, and Will Forte later had success with a parody on SNL called "MacGruber," which also spawned a movie.

The creators of the show had originally planned for "MacGyver" to have a different first name. If they hadn't had a change of heart, we would probably be talking about "Stacey" instead of "Angus MacGyver"!

The very last episode of MacGyver aired in 1992. But that was not the end for the franchise. Two TV movies (90 minutes each) were produced in the following years and they both aired in 1994. Lost Treasure of Atlantis and Trail to Doomsday were both shown on ABC.
