• Matthew Gray Gubler was an integral part of Criminal Minds for 15 years
  • He is no longer part of the revival season
  • This is the reason

Criminal Minds returns with a new 10-episode season. Almost all of the cast from last season are reprising their roles, except for Daniel Henney (42) and Matthew Gray Gubler (42).

Criminal Minds: Matthew Gray Gubler aka "Spencer Reid" is no longer there

The fact that Matthew Gray Gubler aka "Spencer Reid" is no longer part of the BAU of Criminal Minds made many fans sad. In an interview with Looper, "Emily Prentiss" actress Paget Brewster (53) now talks about his exit:

"Matthew was the only person in the last two seasons that had been in every single episode. He did 15 years straight through. From 25 to 40, the guy was on one show, and that's when we shot 22, 24 episodes a year."

While Paget herself took breaks to prove herself in other projects, Gubler didn't have the chance.

"He was never able to go do other stuff, so I understand. He wants to direct. He graduated from NYU to direct, and his first audition was Criminal Minds."

Just like the fans, Paget is also sad about his departure. Other former cast members are also in the new season.

Matthew Gray Gubler directed Criminal Minds

Matthew Gray Gubler already proved that he is a talented director with Criminal Minds. There he directed several episodes, mostly the scariest episodes of the format.

Maybe we can still look forward to a comeback by Matthew Gray Gubler in Criminal Minds - even if "only" as a director.
