- Scream 6 is set to begin filming later this year
- Fans go wild over latest casting announcement
- Several stars are coming back for Scream 6
Scream fans got a treat on Wednesday when it was revealed that an iconic character is coming back! As The Hollywood Reporter shared, the latest star to be cast in Scream 6 is none other than Hayden Panettiere, who first made her mark on the franchise in 2011's Scream 4.
Panettiere will be back as "Kirby" in Scream 6
Panettiere played the role of "Kirby Reed" in the movie, and while the fate of her character remained up in the air for years, she has continued to be a fan favourite. Then in the recently released Scream, an easter egg in the form of a YouTube video hinted at the fact that "Kirby" is very much alive! This lead to excitement about the possibility of seeing Panettiere appear in a future Scream movie, and with her return now confirmed, people are freaking out on social media.
"We won. We f*cking won, #ScreamMovie fam," the official Scream account wrote alongside the news, paraphrasing one of "Kirby's" memorable quotes. Scream 6 was greenlit by the studio earlier this year following the box office success of the latest entry in the franchise. It has been revealed that the upcoming film is set to be released on March 31 next year and will begin shooting over the summer, with several other familiar faces also returning!
Panettiere will be joined by Courteney Cox, who will reprise her role as franchise mainstay "Gale Weathers". New Scream cast members Melissa Barrera, Jenna Ortega, Jasmin Savoy Brown, and Mason Gooding have all been confirmed to star as well. Panettiere herself is yet to comment on her return to the popular horror franchise as "Kirby," but there's no doubt that when she does, fans will once again be screaming with excitement!
