The 2019 film Parasite has taken the 2020 awards season by storm. With big wins at the Golden Globes, Screen Actors Guild Awards, and Critics' Choice Awards, the dark comedy thriller is accomplishing unprecedented success for a foreign language film.

Now, Parasite is set to be rereleased in select theatres in a special black and white versionNeonParasite's American distributor, announced the news on Wednesday.

Why black and white?

Director Bong Joon-ho expressed interest in a black and white version of Parasite after seeing how it enhanced particular qualities of the film. "The film felt more realistic and sharp," he explained, "as if I was being cut by a blade." He also noted that a decoloured version of the film emphasized the acting, characters, and story

Parasite's acting also recently gained the distinction of becoming the first international film to win the Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture.

Parasite, a dark comedy thriller

Parasite follows an unemployed family of four as they each secure a job with the same wealthy family. Once employed, the family's suspicious intentions result in a suspenseful conflict in the wealthy family's home. The film is nominated in six categories at the upcoming Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Best Director, and Best International Feature Film.
