Jay-Z is set to headline the Super Bowl LXI halftime show! The NFL, Apple Music, and Roc Nation announced on Monday evening that the rapper will take the stage on February 14, 2027, at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California, as The Guardian reports.

For the music icon, the performance marks a major change of roles. After years of helping shape the halftime show behind the scenes, Jay-Z will finally step into the spotlight himself.

Roc Nation Has Been Behind the Halftime Show Since 2020

Since 2019, Jay-Z's entertainment company Roc Nation has worked closely with the NFL, advising the league on live entertainment and its Inspire Change social justice initiative.

The company has helped produce the Super Bowl halftime show since 2020, when Shakira and Jennifer Lopez delivered their memorable joint performance.

Super Bowl LXI will mark the eighth consecutive year of Roc Nation's involvement in the production. The partnership was extended for another five years in 2024, while Hamish Hamilton is set to direct the upcoming show.

With Jay-Z now taking center stage, the announcement also puts an end to years of speculation about whether the rapper would ever headline the event himself.

NFL Commissioner Had Wanted Jay-Z to Perform for Years

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell revealed that he had long hoped to see Jay-Z take the stage. "When we first reached an agreement with Roc Nation to produce the show, I had just one request: that JAŸ-Z take the stage himself one day, whenever the moment felt right to him," Goodell said, according to the Los Angeles Times.

However, Jay-Z previously made it clear that he wasn't interested in rushing into the spotlight. In a 2024 interview, the rapper explained that choosing himself to headline the show at that point would have felt selfish. Now, years later, the moment appears to have finally arrived.

25 Grammys and a Legendary Music Career

Born Shawn Carter, Jay-Z has built one of the most successful careers in hip-hop history, earning 25 Grammy Awards and 89 nominations.

His influential discography includes albums such as 'Reasonable Doubt', 'The Blueprint', and 'The Black Album', while hits like 'Hard Knock Life (Ghetto Anthem)', '99 Problems', and 'Empire State of Mind' featuring Alicia Keys have become hip-hop classics.

In 2017, he became the first rapper inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame. Four years later, he was also inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Jay-Z also has a family connection to the Super Bowl stage. His wife, Beyoncé, headlined the halftime show in 2013 and returned as a guest performer during Coldplay's 2016 show. Now, the spotlight will be on Jay-Z as he prepares to headline one of the biggest musical events of 2027.
