At the opening of Parliament in Stockholm on Tuesday, September 29, the spotlight was not only on protocol but also on the Swedish royals’ choice of attire. Princess Madeleine and Princess Sofia, in particular, drew attention as they appeared in remarkably similar outfits.
Madeleine and Sofia: Two of a Kind at the Opening of Parliament
The day began with a traditional church service, followed by the official ceremony at Parliament and an appearance at Stockholm Concert Hall that evening. For the occasion, Madeleine and Sofia both opted for black-and-white ensembles featuring a skirt and blazer. The two princesses also wore black pumps and styled their hair partially down.
Their outfits were not the only detail that caught attention. The fixed order of the procession on the way to the Parliament building was also notable: Prince Carl Philip and Sofia walked ahead of Madeleine and Chris O’Neill. This reflects the line of succession, with Madeleine ranking behind her brother Carl Philip.
Princess Victoria also opted for black and white, but in reverse: She wore a white blazer with a black belt as an accent.

Rank was also reflected in the seating arrangement at Stockholm Cathedral. King Carl Gustaf and Queen Silvia sat together with Crown Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel, while Madeleine, Chris O’Neill, Sofia, and Carl Philip were seated elsewhere.
