Prince Harry returned to the United Kingdom with Meghan, Prince Archie, and Princess Lilibet at the end of August for an extended stay. Following reports of a rift between father and son, a different picture has now emerged: Harry and King Charles spoke on the phone during his first week back in the country, according to People. However, the two have not met in person since the family returned to the UK on August 26. Archie and Lilibet are expected to start school in the United Kingdom in September.
King Charles and Harry Spoke After the Parade
According to People, the phone call took place during Harry’s first week back in the UK. A family gathering had already taken place at Highgrove in July, even before the move became public. During that gathering, the Duke of Sussex and the King also met with Meghan, Archie, Lilibet, and Queen Camilla. For Charles, it was his first reunion with Meghan and their two children since 2022.
In late August, the monarch stayed at Balmoral Castle in Scotland with family members, and in early September, he attended engagements in London.
A Letter From the Palace Reaffirms the Couple’s Status
On September 7, King Charles issued a guidance letter to senior officials in the government, the military, and the Lord-Lieutenantcies throughout the United Kingdom. The letter stated that Harry and Meghan’s status would remain unchanged following their return.
It reiterated that the couple stepped back from representative duties on behalf of the sovereign in January 2020 and are no longer working members of the Royal Family. Their “Royal Highness” styles remain suspended and will not be used.
