Prince Harry is heading to London alone after a late change to his accommodation plans added fresh tension to the trip. The Duke of Sussex had accepted an offer to stay at Buckingham Palace during his visit, but that arrangement was later withdrawn. The visit comes during a busy and sensitive week for Harry, who is due to attend Invictus Games-related engagements and also receive the outcome of his legal case against Associated Newspapers. Meghan Markle, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet will not join him for the London portion of the trip.
Prince Harry Accepts Offer Before It Is Withdrawn
According to People, Harry formally accepted the offer over the weekend after spending days working through private security options. His spokesperson said the duke had been dealing with the fallout from RAVEC’s decision not to provide security for his family during the visit. "Following RAVEC’s decision not to provide security for his family, the Duke spent last week making alternative security arrangements. Once those arrangements were in place, he was able to formally accept the offer of accommodation for himself over the weekend," said his spokesperson according to People Magazine.
King Charles Visit Plans Hit Security Barrier
Security has been the central issue around this trip from the start. Harry had hoped Meghan and the children could travel to Britain, with the possibility of family time during the visit. That plan changed when concerns over protection in London remained unresolved. While King Charles had offered accommodation on a royal estate, the security setup would not extend beyond the property itself. That left Harry’s team exploring private options, but not enough to make the London leg feel suitable for his wife and children.
Legal Case Adds Pressure to the London Schedule
The timing of the trip also matters. Harry is expected in London for several engagements tied to the Invictus Games, with Birmingham set to host the next competition in 2027. At the same time, he is awaiting judgment in his case against the publishers of the Daily Mail and Mail on Sunday. Palace sources said the legal backdrop complicated matters, as the King could not appear compromised while the case was still active. That overlap appears to have intensified an already delicate set of arrangements.
Meghan Markle and Children Stay Away From London
As reported by People, Harry’s spokesperson also questioned why the accommodation was pulled after it had been accepted. "It is therefore disappointing that the offer has now been withdrawn, with Tuesday’s judgment in the Associated Newspapers Limited case cited as the reason," said his spokesperson according to People Magazine. For now, Harry will carry out the London schedule solo. Whether Meghan, Archie and Lilibet could join him later in the wider U.K. visit is still unclear, but their absence in the capital underlines how strongly security concerns continue to shape family decisions.
