Avril Lavigne's Famous Romances
Avril Lavigne was very popular with young fans around the world in the 2000s and was one-half of a few famous couplings. She had been dating Sum 41 frontman Deryck Whibley when she was 19 and became engaged in 2005. The two were married from 2006 until 2010. Their marriage ended amicably as they have remained friends and Avril even told OK! "I am grateful for our time together."
She also dated The Hills star Brody Jenner for 2 years the same year she and Deryck divorced. The two even have matching tattoos of the "F" word on their ribs! Avril also had Brody’s name tattooed under her breast.
Then Avril shocked the tabloids when she began dating Nickelback frontman Chad Kroeger in 2012! The two had worked together for Avril’s 5th album and the odd pair hit it off right away. After only one month of dating, Chad and Avril became engaged!
Chad Kroeger and Avril Lavigne
"Chadvril" married in the South of France on July 1st, 2013 in a gorgeous reconstructed castle. Both Chad and Avril were gushing about each other on social media and in interviews and consistently working together on music and performing together. Avril even openly spoke about wanting to become a mother with Chad!
Sadly, they announced their divorce in 2015. Avril took to Instagram to say, "It is with heavy heart that Chad and I announce our separation today. Through not only the marriage but the music as well, we've created many unforgettable moments. We are still, and forever will be, the best of friends, and will always care deeply for each other. To all our family, friends, and fans, thank you sincerely for the support."
While the two are no longer a couple, they are still very supportive of each other. They have taken each other as dates to events like Grammy party’s or award ceremonies and continue to work on music together. Avril told USA Today, "He’' still like family. I didn't know that it would be that way, and I'm really glad it is because we were friends and we made music together. We’ve just kept the friendship and continued having a working relationship, as well."
Apparently, she still goes to him for advice to this day, "I would call him and send him songs to get his opinion, and if I was ever stuck on something, he'd help me out, which is super f***ing cool, if you think about it. I'd play him songs on FaceTime and he'd be like, 'I'm so proud of you, you did such a good job.' So he just cares about me and wants to see me do well, which is really nice."
Avril is even quick to defend her ex-husband against internet bullies and even called out E! after they posted a particularly mean Nickelback hating article. Avril is dating a new man who she has kept relatively under wraps but acknowledges she is in a new relationship just will not reveal who.
The music Avril Lavigne and Chad Kroeger produce together to this day are impressive and heartfelt. The pair have overcome the classic celebrity trope of hating your exes and set a new standard for their fans. Avril said, "See you later husband" and gained a great friend instead.
