'Duck Dynasty': This Is Phil Robertson Today
You know him as the original Duck Commander. It was his interest in duck-calling that sparked the entire Duck Dynasty legacy. What is he up to today?
Born April 24th, 1946, in the heart of Louisiana Phil Robertson was raised to hunt his own meat. You may recognize him as the original founder of Duck Commander. When he was a student he actually was a fairly successful football player, even becoming the 1970's NFL Draft first overall pick ahead of Hall of Fame-er Terry Bradshaw! But Phil's interests were more in hunting than football so he gave up his NFL career.
From NFL Star To Duck Commander, Phil Robertson
Of his time playing side-by-side with Bradshaw, he said: "Terry went for the bucks, and I chased after the ducks".
In his youth, he was extremely dissatisfied with the quality of duck calls available and did his best to find the most efficient duck call possible. In 1972 he invented his first successful duck call for his Duck Commander Company that eventually led to the multi-million dollar Duck Commander business and eventually handed over the reins to his son Willie Robertson to help grow the company to the state it is in today.
Duck Dynasty's Patriarch, Phil Robertson
Since then, the Robertson family had their record-breaking show Duck Dynasty and have reached worldwide fame.
In 2013 Phil Robertson was suspended for a short period of time from his families show due to some harshly homophobic statements he made in an interview with GQ. He and his family released a statement expressing regret for his coarse language and Phil added that "I would never treat anyone with disrespect just because they are different from me."
Nowadays, Phil continues to help run the business and has a regular podcast "In the Woods with Phil Robertson" that has been adapted for current Coronavirus times to be "In Quarantine with Phil Robertson" where he expresses his Christian views and gives advice on his forte in hunting and survival.
