Judy Garland and Mickey Rooney's Friendship
Hollywood loves pairing actors and casting them constantly in the same movies. For example, Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore, Timothée Chalamet and Saoirse Ronan, Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling. When actors are cast in the same productions time and again, a strong friendship bond begins to form and the same can be said for the iconic silver screen duo, Judy Garland and Mickey Rooney.
These two actors became staples in MGM productions during the late 1930s and early 1940s, often playing the romantic interests of the other. The pair first met in 1935 when Mickey was already well-known but Judy wasn’t. Judy had sung and Mickey “couldn’t believe her voice,” Richard A. Lertzman, co-author of The Life and Times of Mickey Rooney, told Closer magazine.
