Christian megachurch Hillsong has a big list of celebrities under its belt thanks to pastor Carl Lentz. The man who "saved" Justin Bieber is now under fire for "moral failures" and has been let go by his very own church.
Justin Bieber's Pastor Fired From Church
Carl Lentz famously helped Justin Bieber during the "darkest time" in his life after his DUI, Xanax addiction, and serious depression. Justin then lived with Carl, his wife, and children to detox and start fresh. The two are very close and Carl even baptized Justin and his wife Hailey Baldwin twice!
Lentz told GQ in 2015, "People say we cater to celebrities, and I say, yes, we do. Celebrities deserve a relationship with God. Celebrities deserve a place to pray."
But now on Wednesday, Hillsong announced that it would be cutting ties with Carl Lentz stating "This action has been taken following ongoing discussion in relation to leadership issues and breaches of trust, plus a recent revelation of moral failures."
Now Lentz himself has come forward to explain what happened. He posted a photo of his family to social media saying "I was unfaithful in my marriage, the most important relationship in my life and held accountable for that. This failure is on me, and me alone and I take full responsibility for my actions."
The well known spiritual leader is voicing his major mistakes and said, "I now begin a journey of rebuilding trust with my wife, Laura and my children and taking real time to work on and heal my own life and seek out the help that I need. I am deeply sorry for breaking the trust of many people who we have loved serving and understand that this news can be very hard and confusing for people to hear and process."
