Kanye West Is No Longer Running For President In 2020, Report Says

Kanye West's 2020 bid for the White House has reportedly come to an end. The rapper hasn't yet confirmed the news himself, but on Tuesday night, his election adviser told Intelligencer that Kanye "is out" of the running for the 2020 U.S. Presidential election. Assuming the report proves true, the Kanye for President saga wraps up less than two weeks after it started.

Kanye West's venture into the 2020 presidential conversation has come to an end almost as soon as it began. At least, that's what his election specialist and other inside sources have told New York Magazine's Intelligencer. In an article published on the night of July 14, the outlet revealed that West's efforts to get on the 2020 ballot have ceased. Though the rapper hasn't yet addressed the topic, here's what the report had to say.

Despite initial speculation that West's July 4th announcement was a publicity stunt, it turned out that he was serious about running for President in 2020. Four days later, he spoke to Forbes in an interview that outlined his platform and his intent to run as an Independent against Joe Biden and Donald Trump—whom he had at one time vocally supported.

Now, Tuesday's Intelligencer article has revealed that West did, in fact, mobilize resources to get himself on the ballot, as well. But his late entry into the race appears to have done in his campaign. He'd already missed the deadline to get on the ballot in six states when he made his July 4th announcement, and this new report says that there were difficult requirements for other quickly approaching dates, such as the one in Florida.

Kanye West's adviser says he "is out" of the race

West had assembled volunteers and hired teams, lawyers, and specialists for his campaign, Intelligencer reports. But after a signature-gathering effort to get West on Florida's ballot, specialist Steve Kramer announced a sudden change in plans: "He's out," Kramer said in reference to Kanye's presidential run.

On what went wrong, Kramer said: "I’ll let you know what I know once I get all our stuff canceled. We had over 180 people out there today," he said, referencing the signature-gathering work. The report also comes one day after polls showed that the rapper was projected to receive only 2 percent of the vote.

Kramer, who had been hired to get Kanye on the Florida and South Carolina ballots, added: "I have nothing good or bad to say about Kanye. Everyone has their personal decision about why they make decisions. Running for president has to be one of the hardest things for someone to actually contemplate at that level."

It remains unclear whether or not Kanye still has future aspirations in politics, though he had previously hinted at a 2024 presidential run rather than the last-minute one he announced in 2020. But nothing in the report indicated that 2024 is off the table, either. For now, Kanye has only been tweeting about a Sanaa chair over the last 24 hours.
