Kelly Clarkson will be one of the judges for America's Got Talent during this week's live shows! As Entertainment Tonight reports, the singer made the announcement via Instagram on Monday through a humorous press memo.
Clarkson taking over Simon Cowell's seat after accident
Clarkson's last-minute addition to the America's Got Talent judging panel comes as one of the show's judges, Simon Cowell, was injured over the weekend. Cowell ended up in a bike accident and needed surgery for his broken back, so it's not surprising he won't be able to judge the competition's live shows!
"My friend, Simon Cowell, is doing better now but was in an accident and won't be able to make Tuesday and Wednesday's live shows for AGT," Clarkson explained in her Instagram post. "But no worries America, someone far wiser, cooler, and hotter is taking his seat! The unbelievably amazing Kelly Clarkson. You're welcome in advance!"
America's Got Talent's return will be "wild," says Cowell
America's Got Talent's live shows are going to be unlike anything the program has done before, at least according to Cowell! "I thought it wasn't gonna happen. I mean, there are so many hoops you gotta go through, right? But I think we pulled it off," he said to Entertainment Tonight's Kevin Frazier of the show's return. "It's gonna look different than any other previous year."
"It's gonna be big, it's gonna be entertaining, it's gonna be wild, it's gonna be unpredictable, but I love that, you know?" Cowell continued. "I like that thrill of being on a roller coaster when you're like, 'This is gonna have its ups and downs, but I don't know what's coming.' I love that."
Cowell is "doing fine" in recovery according to rep
Cowell's comment about continuing America's Got Talent came the day before the biking accident he suffered! "Simon had a fall from his bike testing his new electric bike in the courtyard at his house in Malibu with his family," Cowell's rep shared with Entertainment Tonight.
"He hurt his back and was taken to hospital. He's doing fine, he's under observation and is in the best possible hands." On Monday, Cowell himself made his first statement since the serious accident, advising safety with electric bikes and thanking those who provided him care. We wish him a quick recovery, and can't wait to see what Clarkson brings to America's Got Talent!
