Kelly Clarkson doesn't want her children to suffer in the same way that she did after her parents' divorce! As People shares, Clarkson has been open in the past about how she's been affected by their separation, particularly her father's abandonment.
Clarkson and her two kids— 6-year-old daughter River Rose and 4-year-old son Remington Alexander— are now back in Los Angeles. The trio was previously self-isolating in Montana with Blackstock, who Clarkson recently filed for divorce from. And according to a source, it's important to the singer that her kids grow up in a stable home!
Clarkson "has a special relationship" with Blackstock's children
Clarkson actively wants to make sure River and Remington's upbringing is an emotionally healthy one! "She had to work through a lot of hurt from her childhood," the source said to People about Clarkson. "Her priority is making sure her children grow up in a stable, loving environment."
It isn't just her biological kids Clarkson cares about, either. People mentions that Clarkson is also close to Blackstock's children, Seth and Savannah. "She's always thought of Seth and Savannah as her own too, and she has a special relationship with both of them," the source revealed. "Kelly wants to remain close with her step-kids."
Clarkson on her abandonment issues: "that doesn't go away"
Clarkson recently talked about how dealing with childhood abandonment still affects her today. As People mentions, she opened up about the topic in a new interview with Glamour UK.
"I don't think you get rid of that," Clarkson told the magazine. "I have people in my life that suffer from addiction to certain things and that doesn't go away. It's always there. It's just navigating your life around that existence in your life."
Clarkson and Blackstock's relationship changed because of work
Clarkson and Blackstock have "been like friends for a while," according to another insider, who also mentioned how the relationship between them became strained due to work demands.
"Things had changed in their marriage and the split was a while coming," the insider revealed to People. "They both work so hard. It's nearly impossible to enjoy each other, especially with the children needing constant attention."
