Hosted by Puerto Rican singers, Ricky Martin, and Roselyn Sánchez, alongside Spanish actress Paz Vega, the 2019 Latin Grammy Awards took place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, this Thursday. The 20th edition of the event was quite exciting - as every year, the biggest Latin music artists were honoured for their achievements.
Spanish singers Alejandro Sanz and Rosalía, as well as Colombian artist Fonseca, led the night with the most nominations. 2019 Latin Grammy Awards: The best moments of the event
Chilean singer Mon Laferte, who took home the award for Best Alternative Music Album for Norma, turned heads on the red carpet for wearing a black coat exposing her breasts alongside a political message which read, "in Chile they torture, rape and kill." The 36-year-old Latin music artist made reference to the protests that recently took place in her country, where at least 20 people died in an effort of demanding better social services and fighting against inequality.
Colombian singer Juanes was honoured at the 2019 Latin Grammy Awards
Juanes, best known for his songs "Mala Gente" and "La Camisa Negra," accepted the Person of the Year Award, presented by the drummer and co-founder of heavy metal band Metallica, Lars Ulrich. "I met Juanes years ago, after performing in Mexico. And I have keenly watched his music, his creativity and his radiant humanity soar across this beautiful planet. Then I learned he was a Metallica fan!," said Ulrich.
Juanes, who also performed some of his greatest hits during the event, replied to Ulrich in a very sweet way, "I’m making music because of you guys! I remember sitting in my house 30 years ago in Medellín, being 15, being angry, and listening to Metallica all the time. I was obsessed!,” he said.
