Mickey Rooney and Judy Garland became staples in MGM productions during the late 1930s and early 1940s, often playing the romantic interests of the other. The pair first met in 1935 when Mickey was already well-known but Judy wasn't.

Judy Garland had sung and Mickey Rooney “couldn’t believe her voice,” Richard A. Lertzman, co-author of The Life and Times of Mickey Rooney, once told Closer magazine.
Over the years, the two actors would appear in many popular movies together. They developed a close bond and, though Mickey Rooney was married many times, Judy Garland was not one of his wives.
