Paul McCartney's New Book

The 78-year-old music legend has given his fans some extra special gifts in honor of the release of his new book The Lyrics. Paul McCartney posted a montage collection of vintage footage and photos to give a peek at what his book will entail.

Paul explained that while he did not keep journals or diaries over the years, he did record his life story via the many songs he's written. Along with his message is adorable footage of Paul with his family and bandmates over the years.

You can see footage of baby-faced Paul jumping and dancing on the beach, playing the guitar, go-karting, fooling around with his bandmates, and playing with his daughters. Paul has had a busy year! During the pandemic, he took the time to complete an entire album McCartney III and began working on his memoir. He often spoke about how he had no plans to make a new album but he found himself with a lot of time on his hands to compose music that came to him.

According to Pitchfork, his new book will be a compilation of lyrics, photographs, letters, un-seen drafts, and much more to give "a kaleidoscopic rather than chronological account" of Pauls's incredible life. The book has been made in collaboration with Pulitzer Prize-winning poet Paul Muldoon who help curate the book using years of their conversations the two Paul's have had.

Muldoon told The Guardian, "Sir Paul and I met regularly over a period of five years for two or three hour sessions in which we talked in a very intensive way about the background to a half dozen songs. In a strange way, our process mimicked the afternoon sessions he had with John Lennon when they wrote for the Beatles. We were determined never to leave the room without something interesting."

"He's one of the most buoyant, upbeat people I know, but his general demeanor shouldn't suggest that he's anything but a deep thinker. He looks long and hard into every aspect of life and I believe readers, old and new, will be struck by a book that will show that side of him. He's going to come out of this book as a major literary figure."
