Tom Hanks is a treasured American actor and producer, who won the Oscar for Best Actor twice! Among Tom's most prominent works are films such as Philadelphia, Forrest Gump, You've Got Mail, Cast Away, The Da Vinci Code, and Toy Story.
Thomas Jeffrey Hanks was born on July 9, 1956. It was in 1981 that Tom made his acting debut in a horror movie titled He Knows You're Alone. Tom Hanks later went on to star in films such as Splash, The Money Pit, or Big, with which he earned his first Oscar nomination for Best Actor as well as his first Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Comedy or Musical. However, Tom's great acting success came in the 1990s, as he starred in movies such as A League of Their Own as well as Sleepless in Seattle. In 1993 he starred in Philadelphia with Denzel Washington, a film for which he won his first Oscar for Best Actor as well as his second Golden Globe for Best Actor in Drama. A year later, he won the lead actor in the drama Forrest Gump, with which he won his second consecutive Oscar for Best Actor, for which he was also awarded at the Golden Globes and the Screen Actors Guild Awards. In 1995 Tom also starred in Apollo 13 and began voicing the character "Woody" in Toy Story. In 1998 he starred in Saving Private Ryan, with which he was nominated again for an Oscar, in addition to You've Got Mail, while in the 2000s he starred in the films Cast Away, The Terminal, The Da Vinci Code, or Angels and Demons. Hanks has also participated in films such as Captain Phillips, Sully, or A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood.
Tom Hanks has been married twice in his life. The first occurred in 1978 when he married Samantha Lewes, with whom he had two children. The first of them was the actor Colin Hanks, who was born in 1977, while his second child was Elisabeth Ann, who was born in 1982. Tom and Samantha divorced in 1985. Years later, in 2002, Samantha tragically died from cancer. In the late 1980s, Tom married actress Rita Wilson, with whom he had two more children: Chester Marlon, born in 1991, and Truman Theodore, who was born in 1996. Tom and Rita have since remained a power couple. In March 2020 they both tested positive for COVID-19, becoming two of the best-known celebrities to contract it first.
