• Meryl Streep and her husband have been secretly separated
  • It's been going on for six years now
  • The couple tied the knot in 1978 and share four children together.

Some sources confirmed the news to 'Page Six' this past Friday. And now, they have called it quits after 45 years of marriage. The duo met in 1978 shortly after the death of her boyfriend, actor John Cazale. In an exclusive statement, a spokesperson for the beloved star told 'Page Six', "Don Gummer and Meryl Streep have been separated for more than 6 years, and while they will always care for each other, they have chosen lives apart."

The news may come as a shock as the actress was seen today at the Princesa de Asturias Awards 2023 rocking her wedding band. However, the fact is, they were last seen together at the 2018 Oscars. And that already had many fans on alert about their relationship.

Meryl and Don went their separate ways a while ago

In speaking about her marriage to 'Vogue' during a 2002 interview, Meryl had said, "Goodwill and willingness to bend — and to shut up every once in a while. There’s no road map on how to raise a family: It’s always an enormous negotiation. But I have a holistic need to work and to have huge ties of love in my life."

Over the years, Meryl and Don have attended countless red carpet events together. At the Academy Awards in 2012, when the actor won Best Actress for 'The Iron Lady', she said in her acceptance speech, "First, I'm going to thank Don because when you thank your husband at the end of the speech they play him out with the music, and I want him to know that everything I value most in our lives, you've given me."

It seems that now, the couple will be focused on remaining good co-parents. Streep and her sculptor husband have been married since 1978.  During their marriage, they had four children together: Henry, 43, Mamie, 40, Grace, 37, and Louisa, 32. Their oldest child, Henry Wolfe is a musician, while their youngest, Louisa, is best known for her starring role in 'The Gilded Age.'

Mamie and Grace also both followed their mother into the acting world, with Mamie playing the lead role on the show 'Emily Owens, MD.' Grace has appeared in hit series such as 'The Newsroom' and 'Mr. Robot.'

But it can't be easy following the footsteps of one of the greatest talents of our generation. "The fact that my mom is who she is can be overshadowing," Henry previously told 'The Daily News'. "Sometimes I worry that my story isn't good enough. Sure, my mom is part of the story and I don't get pissed when people ask me about her, but I wish I had something that could eclipse that as far as compelling storylines."

He added, "There are a certain amount of assumptions that go along with that, which tend to not be fair, like the recognition somehow helps me. But it also hurts because people start to think that I don't work hard and they don't take me seriously."

What this means is that we may see Meryl with her children on the red carpet now, and not Don anymore. Now that the secret is out, it won't be strange not to see him by her side.

Perhaps now is the time for Meryl to showcase her talented kids instead!
