• Harry and Meghan are really opening up in their new TV series
  • They revisited when Meghan met the Queen for the first time
  • Harry called it "a shock to the system" for his American girlfriend

In the Netflix hit Harry & Meghan, the Duchess reveals how her first meeting with Queen Elizabeth II really went.

Before her meeting with the Queen, Meghan had already met Prince William and Duchess Kate. But Queen Elizabeth was the Royal Family's first high-ranking member to meet Meghan in 2016.

"Shock to the system": When Meghan met the Queen

For the American actress, the meeting came with a lot of excitement. "It was a bit of a shock to the system for her," Harry says of Meghan's reaction.

"She had no idea what it all consisted of," Prince Harry recalls. However, Harry also sprung the meeting on his then-girlfriend Meghan.

She remembers: "We were in the car, and we were going to Royal Lodge for lunch. And he's like, 'Oh my grandmother's here, she's gonna be there after church.'"

Also interesting:

Meghan had not expected to meet the Queen that day. "And he's like, 'You know how to curtsy right?' And I just thought it was a joke," the now-Duchess says.

For Meghan, it seemed like "Medieval Times" for family members to bow to Queen Elizabeth. "It's surreal," she adds.

But Meghan passed everything with flying colours. Her curtsy was probably a bit overdone, but she was able to make a good first impression.
