Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have mobilized their resources against online hate speech.

Specifically, sources have now confirmed that the couple has supported the Stop Hate for Profit campaign in a behind-the-scenes capacity. The campaign targets Mark Zuckerberg and Facebook for continuing to circulate and profit from ads with hate speech and disinformation on the social media platform.

Harry & Meghan's Archewell Foundation supports Facebook boycott

This action comes as part of Harry and Meghan's early development of the nonprofit Archewell Foundation, a source confirmed to People

"As we've been developing Archewell, one of the areas The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been keen to address is online hate speech, and we've been working with civil rights and racial justice groups on it," the source told the outlet.

The source continued: "Over the past few weeks, in particular, [online hate speech] has become even more vital and they have been working to encourage global CEOs to stand in solidarity with a coalition of civil and racial justice groups like the NAACP, Color of Change, and the Anti-Defamation League, which are calling for structural changes to our online world."

NAACP President Derrick Johnson tweeted a message of thanks to the Sussexes on Sunday afternoon, saying: "Thank you for embodying the kind of leadership that meets the moment. The @NAACP deeply value your unwavering support to #StopHateForProfit."

Stop Hate for Profit has gained the support of a growing list of major CEOs and advertisers who will begin to boycott Facebook in July 2020 to, per the campaign's website, "force Mark Zuckerberg to address the catastrophic effect that Facebook has had on our society."

The campaign contends that Facebook accepts advertisers and marketers who promote hate speech, racism, disinformation, and voter suppression.

"Could they protect and support Black users? Could they call out Holocaust denial as hate? Could they help get out the vote? They absolutely could. But they are actively choosing not to do so.

"99% of Facebook’s $70 billion is made through advertising. Who will advertisers stand with? Lets send Facebook a powerful message: Your profits will never be worth promoting hate, bigotry, racism, antisemitism and violence," Stop Hate for Profit says.

This is Archewell "in motion," source says

People's source further emphasized Harry and Meghan's interest in fighting online hate speech today. "The Duke and Duchess believe there is an urgent and pressing need to remodel the framework of our online public spaces," the source said.

"This is their organization in motion. They are committed to dealing with the here and now, the right now, and the long-term."
