Prince Harry was in the room with his wife Meghan Markle when she lent her voice to the new Disney+ film Elephant! This information came to light on Friday through an exclusive interview with People, where filmmakers Mark Linfield and Vanessa Berlowitz, shared their experience working with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

According to them, having dinner with the pair in Botswana was what sparked their involvement in the project, which marks Meghan's first venture back into the entertainment industry since joining the royal family. And as Berlowitz shared, Meghan was captivated by the elephants from the very beginning!

Meghan was "absolutely fascinated" when it came to elephants

Meghan instantly became drawn to the film's titular animal upon learning more about them. "She was absolutely intrigued by the elephants and transfixed, especially by the female empowerment side," said Berlowitz. "How important the matriarchs are to the story; it really is all about female leadership. It’s a different form of power — it’s about consensual leadership. It’s also very inclusive, as well — very contemporary. She was absolutely fascinated by that".

When Meghan recorded her part for Elephant at London's famed Pinewood Studios in October with Harry by her side, Berlowitz says she could see that the Duchess of Sussex connected with the story. "She had a small child. You could totally tell she was identifying with [elephants] Shani and Jojo, and keeping little ones in tow," she shared. "She felt like a normal mom going through the normal trials and tribulations of bringing up a baby. Like one of us".

Harry helped give Meghan some direction while there for support

Harry may not have been directly involved in the project, but he did more than just sitting back and watching as Meghan recorded her narration! According to the filmmakers, Harry gave Meghan some direction from the "cheap seats" as he called it, helping her perfect her lines. "Harry was correcting her pronunciation!" shared Linfield.

The film's producer, Roy Conli, also expressed his satisfaction with Markle's performance while working with her for Elephant. "I always say, ‘If you feel something, do it, make it organic'," he said. "She’s such a diligent professional and she wanted to get it right. It was a delight all the way around".
