Royals: A Look At Princess Kate's Abdominal Surgery & Recovery Timeline

Princess Kate underwent a planned abdominal surgery in January this year. Her last public appearance took place in December 2023, with the public and media outlets concerned about her health.

This is what the Princess of Wales has gone through in the past months.

December 25, 2023, marked Princess Kate's last public appearance. She attended church services at London's Royal Family's country residence Sandringham.On January 17, 2024, it was informed that the Princess of Wales underwent a "planned abdominal surgery".

Kensington Palace informed that she would remain in the hospital for 14 days and that it was unlikely that she would be taking part in public engagements until March.

The following day, on January 18, it was informed that Prince William had visited her in the hospital. 

Eleven days later, on January 29, Kensington Palace released a statement that read: "The Princess of Wales has returned home to Windsor to continue her recovery from surgery. She is making good progress. The Prince and Princess wish to say a huge thank you to the entire team at The London Clinic, especially the dedicated nursing staff, for the care they have provided. The Wales family continues to be grateful for the well wishes they have received from around the world."

On March 4, a picture of Princess Kate was published by 'TMZ'. In the image, she is seen in the passenger seat of a car accompanied by her mother, Carole Middleton, driving near Windsor Castle.

The image, however, was not authorized or released by Kensington Palace, but it was the first time the Princess of Wales was seen in public since December 25.

Following speculations on her attendance to the annual Trooping the Colour event, which will take place on June 8, on March 10 Kensington Palace posted an image of Kate and her three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, to celebrate U.K.'s Mother's Day.

The image was severely criticized by the public due to apparent manipulation, with multiple outlets and agencies even pulling it out from circulation.

The next day, March 11th, the Princess of Wales herself issued an apology that read: "Like many amateur photographers, I do occasionally experiment with editing. I wanted to express my apologies for any confusion the family photograph we shared yesterday caused."

According to 'The Sun', on March 16 Princess Kate was seen at her favorite farm shop. Witnesses and onlookers told the tabloid that "she looked happy and she looked well" and that "after all the rumours that had been going round I was stunned to see them there."

In recent days, the public has shown major concern for Princess Kate's health. As of March 2024, her and Prince William's Instagram account @princeandprincessofwales has gained at least 170,300 new followers, while Kensington Palace's X account @KensingtonRoyal has gained 48,000 new ones. We were so glad to hear in September 2024, that the Princess of Wales has successfully completed her preventative chemotherapy treatment. We wish her all the best in her continued recovery!
