• A Dirty Dancing sequel is being made
  • The film's studio shared a brief teaser
  • Here are the first details on the movie

Dirty Dancing is still one of the most beloved movies of all time. And fans are curious about the new sequel being made with Jennifer Grey.

The sequel was announced in 2020, but few details have emerged since then. After Jennifer Grey recently said they're still writing the script, the film's studio just provided first details on the new Dirty Dancing.

Dirty Dancing sequel: "Baby" returns to Kellerman's

The Dirty Dancing sequel was just announced at Cinemacon. Per EW, its studio Lionsgate shared the following teaser: "Jennifer Grey returns to Kellerman's in the next chapter."

So we now know: the sequel will see "Baby" back at Kellerman's resort — where her story with "Johnny" took place in the original. That'll be nostalgic! We'll have to see where they go from there.

And "Baby" may be back, but the new film will have to go ahead without "Johnny." Star Patrick Swayze died over a decade ago from cancer at just 57.

Why Jennifer Grey wants to do the new Dirty Dancing

Some fans are unhappy they're doing the film without Patrick Swayze. But Jennifer Grey recently explained why she's so determined to revisit their 1987 film.

Grey, now 62, told People magazine that Dirty Dancing has a pivotal message about overcoming "your limiting belief systems," and she hopes to revisit that "formula" for a new generation of viewers.

She explained in full: "I would love to give fans or a young, new audience an experience that would never replicate [the original], but has the same kind of underpinnings. Today people think that their identity is limited, the world has told them what it is.

"But there are certain people who can see other parts of you. Dirty Dancing was a fairy tale, a successful movie and formula, using dance as a metaphor for embodying your energy and getting out of your head, and your limiting belief systems."
