'El Chapo' Cast

Drug cartel and trafficking series have taken streamers by storm in recent years. And the story of "El Chapo" was one that's had viewers hooked more than any other. 

Netflix brought the story to life in El Chapo (2017-2018), the three-season crime drama starring Marco de la O as Joaquin Guzman—better known as "El Chapo," the infamous Mexican drug lord. In this gallery, meet the cast of El Chapo and find out where else you can see the stars!

Marco de la O is known for the title role as "Joaquin 'El Chapo' Guzmán" in El Chapo, but the Mexican actor has had important roles throughout his career in TV and films. Some of his best-known work includes Rambo: Last Blood with Sylvester Stallone and current TV series False Identity with Camila Sodi and R.

Humberto Busto co-stars in El Chapo as "Don Sol." Passionate about acting from a young age, he had his first breakthrough in Amores perros directed by Alejandro González Iñárritu. Busto, also a film director, has appeared in productions such as Diablero—also on Netflix—and Cantinflas. In El Chapo, his role was a fictionalized version of Genaro García Luna.

Colombian actor Alejandro Aguilar started out his career acting in soap operas, including the successful Pasión de Gavilanes. One of his great successes was the Mexican series Rosario Tijeras, but more recently he gained recognition for his role as "Toño" in El Chapo. The 38-year-old Aguilar is also a producer, director, and writer.

Rodrigo Abed portrays the fearsome "Amado Carrillo," a.k.a. "El Señor de los Cielos," in El Chapo. The actor trained at Televisa's Centro de Educación Artística and has appeared in successful soap operas such as Maria la del Barrio and Cuando seas mía. He also made an appearance in a series that focuses on his El Chapo character, "Carillo," however, he played the role of "Cesár Silva de la Garza" on the show.

Viewers of Mexican TV remember Iran Castillo for roles in soap operas such as Clase 406 and Soñadores (Dreamers). She also worked in movies like El Tigre de Santa Julia and dubbed the voice of "Jessie" in the Spanish version of Toy Story 2. On El Chapo, she plays "Vanessa Espinoza," a fictionalized version of actress Kate del Castillo.

Colombian actor Diego Vasquez has become quite popular for his role in the series The Good Bandit and Sin senos si hay paraíso. But in El Chapo, he plays the role of "Ismael Zambrano," a fictionalized version of the drug trafficker Ismael Zambada García, better known as cartel leader "El Mayo."

You knew him as "El Güero," the partner of "El Chapo," in the Netflix series. But Juan Carlos Olivas was earlier known for work on shows including Un Día Cualquiera and Kipatia as well as movie 180º and the sci-fi film 2033. Sadly, the 34-year-old actor died in 2018 following a battle with cancer.

In El Chapo, Laura Osma plays "Elba," inspired by Emma Coronel, the wife of Joaquín "El Chapo" Guzmán. Osma has also starred in successful Colombian productions such as Historia de un crimen: Colmenares and Fugitivos.
