• Golden Raspberry nominations announced
  • Lady Gaga and Joaquin Phoenix nominated
  • History and significance of the anti-Oscars

The Golden Raspberry Award is a satirical award that shines a spotlight on the film industry's less glamorous achievements. This year, the Oscar winners Lady Gaga and Joaquin Phoenix were the center of attention, as they were chosen for their roles in the film. 'Joker: Folie à Deux' was nominated for Worst Actor.

The film itself tops the list of nominations with a total of seven mentions, including for Worst Screen Couple and Worst Director.

Razzies: Lady Gaga and Joaquin Phoenix nominated

The musical thriller 'Joker: Folie à Deux', in which Lady Gaga and Joaquin Phoenix play a pair of lovers in a gloomy prison, has attracted attention from both critics and the Golden Raspberry Awards.

In addition to the two leading actors, other well-known names such as Cate Blanchett and Jennifer Lopez have also been nominated for the unpopular awards. The "Razzies" were launched in 1980 by John Wilson to expose the missteps of the film industry in a humorous way.

Criticism of the "Razzies" for minors

However, the "Razzies" not only stand for humorous criticism but also for controversy. In 2023, the nomination of the first twelve-year-old Ryan Kiera Armstrong as the worst actress caused an uproar. The organizers withdrew the nomination and changed the rules to exclude children under the age of 18 from future nominations.

History and significance of the Golden Raspberry

The Golden Raspberry was founded in 1981 by John Wilson and his friends as a reaction to a disappointing Oscar night. What began as a small event quickly developed into an institution that satirically highlights the less glamorous side of Hollywood. The trophy, a golden plastic raspberry on a film reel base, symbolizes the films and actors that didn't make it at the box office or on the big screen.

The Golden Raspberry "winners" are traditionally announced the day before the Oscars. The 2025 Oscars are scheduled to take place on March 2.
