Twitter, Facebook, Instagram... 'Home Alone 2'?

'Home Alone' Fans Want Donald Trump Cameo Removed After Capitol Riots

Home Alone 2 Fans Want Donald Trump Cameo Removed

After President Trump was purged from social media platforms this week, movie fans are now calling for the removal of his cameo in 1992's Home Alone 2: Lost in New York. Apparently, there's even been confusion about Trump officially being digitally replaced in the film as well. Here's what been going down with Trump and Home Alone 2 in the aftermath of the Capitol Building riots.

Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram have all banned Donald Trump from their platforms. Could Home Alone 2: Lost in New York be next?

In a week that saw Trump incite a riot at the Capitol Building, prominent social media services banned the U.S. president, citing fears of "further incitement of violence" (Twitter) and his decision to "incite violent insurrection" (Facebook). Now, if movie fans could have it their way, Trump's cameo in Home Alone 2: Lost in New York would also hit the cutting room floor.

Home Alone 2 fans want Donald Trump cameo removed

Famously, Trump cameos in the 1992 sequel to Home Alone, directing "Kevin McCallister" (Macaulay Culkin) to the lobby in a hotel. But now, Home Alone fans and social media users want the cameo cut. In one of several viral tweets, a user wrote: "He should be tried, imprisoned, and digitally removed from Home Alone 2."

In an odd turn of events, some outlets are even reporting that Christopher Plummer will officially replace Trump's cameo in the scene. But it appears they've been duped by a verified user who jokingly wrote: "BREAKING NEWS: Donald Trump to be digitally replaced in HOME ALONE 2 with actor, Christopher Plummer."

In reality, it's a callback to when Plummer was a last-minute replacement for Kevin Spacey in All the Money in the World after Spacey was accused of sexual assault. Regardless, Twitter users have also digitally removed Trump from the clip themselves, while others made light of his role in the film — DiscussingFilm's Twitter page wrote: "'Home Alone 2: Lost In New York' star Donald Trump has been banned from Twitter."

Donald Trump apparently "bullied" his way into Home Alone 2

The Trump Home Alone cameo also made headlines in late 2020, when it was revisited by the film's director, Chris Columbus. He explained how Trump actually "bullied" his way into the movie when they shot at The Plaza Hotel, which Trump—then a notable businessman and celebrity figure—owned at the time.

Columbus recalled: "Trump said OK [to filming in the hotel]. We paid the fee, but he also said, 'The only way you can use The Plaza is if I'm in the movie.'"

Whether any true headway is made on Trump's cameo remains to be seen. Following the Capitol Building riots, during which five people died, the outgoing president was permanently suspended from Twitter, and banned for the remainder of his term by Facebook, which also owns Instagram.
