'Mom': How Anna Faris's Exit Was Explained In Season 8 Premiere
The Mom season 8 premiere aired at the beginning of November, and we now have the answer to how Anna Faris's exit would be handled on the show. Allison Janney and the cast were back for the usual, but here's how the absence of "Christy" was explained.
Mom made its long-awaited return to CBS earlier this month. Only, it was a new-look for the sitcom, because star Anna Faris quit the show ahead of season 8 to "pursue new opportunities."
Season 8 will go on without Faris, who starred as "Christy" opposite Allison Janney as "Bonnie" for the first seven seasons. Here's how the premiere explained the departure of the show's star.

Mom kicked off the season 8 premiere, titled "Sex Bucket and the Grammar Police," by getting right down to business.
Nearly 5 million viewers tuned in as the episode opened with "Bonnie" and "Adam" (William Fichtner) driving home from the airport, where, it was revealed, they had just dropped "Christy" off.
The reveal, as "Bonnie" explained: "Every mom dreams of the day where they get to drop their 42-year-old daughter off at the airport to go to school," she said. "I wasn't there the whole time, but I was definitely there for the beginning, in and out during the middle, and rock solid from age 37 on. You know, the formative years," she joked of her later-life reconnection with her daughter.
"Bonnie" continued, revealing that "Christy" got a full scholarship to pursue law at Georgetown Law School. The proud mother plays it cool at first, but eventually breaks down and returns to watch the flight depart.
Mom season 8 goes on after Anna Faris quits
The episode contained a few other references to "Christy," but it moved forward with a plot on a party for "Tammy." Earlier this week, Janney for the first time spoke on Faris's exit, saying: "I think I'll miss the most, for me, the relationship between 'Bonnie' and 'Christy,' even though that will still continue. But she won't be present. That's what I'll miss."
Will Mom live on in the style of Two and a Half Men, which lasted several seasons after leading man Charlie Sheen was fired and replaced by Ashton Kutcher? Janney remains under contract with the show through season 8, at least. Will you keep watching?
