Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are developing a Netflix feature based on No Way Out: The Searing True Story of Men Under Siege, a book by Major Adam Jowett. According to People, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are producing the adaptation through Archewell Productions as part of their first-look deal with the streamer. The film centers on British soldiers in Helmand Province during the Afghanistan War, giving the project a subject that is both military and deeply personal for Harry, who served two tours in the country during his army years.

Major Adam Jowett’s Book Heads to Netflix
The story follows Easy Company, a unit made up of British soldiers from the Parachute Regiment and Royal Irish. Their mission is to hold the center of Musa Qala in Helmand Province, but they end up heavily outnumbered by the Taliban. Screenwriter Matt Charman, whose credits include Bridge of Spies, is attached to adapt the book for the screen. Harry, Meghan and Archewell executive Tracy Ryerson are producing. The project adds a scripted war drama to the couple’s expanding film and television work with Netflix.
Prince Harry’s Army Service Shapes the Project
Harry’s connection to the material goes beyond producing credits. He spent ten years in the British Army and completed two tours in Afghanistan, including service in Helmand Province, where the book is set. His first deployment in 2007 and 2008 was cut short after a media embargo was broken and his location became public. He later returned in 2012. That history gives the film a different weight, with Harry bringing firsthand experience of the conflict, military life and the impact war has on service members.
Harry Spoke About the Cost of War in 2023
The prince has also spoken publicly about what he witnessed during the conflict. In his 2023 Netflix docuseries Heart of Invictus, he reflected on the moment he was flown home from Afghanistan. “As we took off the curtain in front of me blew open and all you could see was the air hospital,” said Harry according to People. He continued, “That was the real trigger for I'm now seeing the real cost of war. Not just those individuals but also their families and what that would mean and how their lives would literally change forever.”
Meghan Markle Linked the Netflix Deal to Shared Goals
The film arrives as Harry and Meghan continue to build out their partnership with Netflix under a first-look arrangement rather than a broad multi-project pact. Meghan addressed that collaboration in an earlier statement about the company’s plans. “My husband and I feel inspired by our partners who work closely with us and our Archewell Productions team to create thoughtful content across genres that resonates globally, and celebrates our shared vision,” Meghan told People. This new film fits that aim while placing Harry’s military experience at the center of the occasion.
