Frogmore Cottage has returned to the royal conversation after reports that its future is being assessed. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex lived there for less than a year in 2019 after Queen Elizabeth II gave them the property as a wedding gift. They later repaid the £2.4 million renovation bill after stepping back from royal duties and moving to California. According to Daily Mail, one option now under consideration is splitting the Grade II-listed home back into two residences, reversing the major changes made during Prince Harry and Meghan’s short stay.

Meghan Markle Added a Modern Kitchen

The kitchen offered one of the clearest signs of the couple’s design choices. Images shared in their Netflix series showed an open-plan layout with a wide breakfast bar, dark wooden cabinets and a marble countertop. Gold-toned handles added a polished finish, while framed pictures and a vase of roses softened the room. The original kitchen dated back to 1801, but the updates gave it a more contemporary feel. During the renovation, the home also underwent structural work, including rewiring, new gas and water mains, and soundproofing said to have cost £50,000.

Lilibet Photos Gave a Living Room Glimpse

Photos from Princess Lilibet’s first birthday at the Windsor home gave a rare look at the living room. The space appeared airy, with high ceilings, exposed wooden flooring and a large floral rug stretching across much of the room. A dark metallic gallery light illuminated artwork on the wall, while a pale upholstered armchair sat nearby. The room mixed modern and traditional elements without looking formal. The images suggested a family space designed for comfort, with enough room for guests, children and relaxed gatherings during the occasion.

Prince Harry Kept Diana Close in the Bedroom

A birthday image of Prince Archie also offered a quiet view into the couple’s bedroom. Prince Harry was pictured holding his son while a framed photo of Princess Diana sat on a dresser in the background. The room also featured a gilded mirror, brass wall sconces and a large fiddle-leaf fig plant. Meghan brought along a favorite artwork too: Inslee Fariss’s “Babe No. 5,” which had previously hung in her Toronto home. Meghan purchased the piece for £520, as reported by Hello!, linking her former life in Canada with the royal home in Windsor.

Harry Wrote Warmly About the Garden

The garden showed another side of life at the property, with lawn space, mature greenery, a bench with trellis framing and outdoor seating for family events. Photos and documentary footage suggested a private setting with room for children, pets and entertaining. There were also past reports of an organic vegetable plot planned for herbs, fruit and vegetables. In Spare, Prince Harry described the home in deeply personal terms. "We loved that place," said Harry according to Daily Mail. He added, "It felt as if we were destined to live there," describing walks in the gardens and time spent among the swans.
