Adele has shared what "Hello" meant to her at the time she wrote it! As People shares, a new clip has been released from the singer's conversation with Oprah Winfrey where she talked about the hit song, which will air as part of an upcoming special called Adele One Night Only.

Adele reflects on existential meaning of "Hello"

Adele told Winfrey that not only would she be kicking off the evening with "Hello," but that she plans to open all of her concerts with the chart-topping 2015 song. "I'm always going to start with 'Hello,'" Adele said, explaining how she felt it would be "a bit weird" for the song to be included later on in a show. Then, she reflected on the state of mind she had been in at the time she was writing it.

The British star explained that she considered "Hello" to be "the beginning of me trying to find myself," even though she wasn't exactly sure where to go from that point. As she told Winfrey, "Hello" is quite a profound song to her because of its existential nature, since she was looking both forward and backward in time. She called it "a real ode to like, little me, older me, all of these things," saying it's about having a continual presence throughout her own life.

Winfrey's good friend Gayle King previously teased the upcoming exclusive chat with Adele, raving about her performance. She also shared that the first in-person meeting between the singer and Winfrey was "a special day." In October, Adele released her first new single in years, "Easy On Me," and announced that her fourth album, which is titled 30, will be out in the world on November 19.
