Alex Beresford has opened up about the troubling racism he's faced online since his showdown with Piers Morgan on Good Morning Britain. Beresford, the GMB weatherman and panelist, confronted Morgan last month after his controversial attack on Duchess Meghan's character following her interview with Oprah Winfrey.

GMB: Alex Beresford on racism after Piers Morgan incident

Beresford had called Morgan "pathetic" after he insisted he didn't believe "a word" Meghan said in her interview, despite her discussion of suicidal thoughts and experiences with racism. But the GMB presenter now says that racist trolls have been targeting him online because of the incident with Morgan.

"Since then I have been subjected to relentless racism myself on social media," Beresford wrote in a new piece with The Telegraph. "I haven't announced it […] but I have been forced to step away from Twitter and Facebook myself, because it was getting too much. I am a strong person, but I am not made of steel."

Alex Beresford confronted Piers Morgan on GMB over his Meghan comments.

As a mixed-race British man, Beresford added that he "resonated" with Meghan's story and views her as a serious difference maker — akin to Barack Obama. "When I was a child the thought of a 'mixed race' princess in the British Royal Family was as far-fetched as that of a black president of the United States," he wrote.

"Both Meghan Markle and Barack Obama will go down in history for breaking barriers in elite institutions, but," Beresford continued, "you only need to visit the comments section beneath online articles on either of them to see we've not necessarily progressed as far as you'd hope."

Piers Morgan quit GMB after Alex Beresford confronted him

Beresford's troubling experience came in the aftermath of Oprah with Meghan and Harry. The day after the interview aired in the UK, Beresford held Piers Morgan accountable on GMB for his doubt of the Duchess's honesty in discussing her own experiences. Morgan stormed off during the confrontation and quit the program later that day.

As Morgan was walking off, Beresford said: "I'm sorry but Piers spouts off on a regular basis and we have to sit there and listen." Meanwhile, Morgan has since doubled down on his controversial opinion of Meghan and decried accusations of racism levelled at him.
