The English singer Elton John recently postponed a concert in Indianapolis due to health issues. He was supposed to hit the stage for his Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour concert, but claimed to feel "extremely unwell and unable to perform."

The Don't Go Breaking My Heart singer took to Instagram to apologize to his fans, since he has always been concerned about them. However, it seems like the legendary singer, who has been active in the music industry for nearly five decades, has also been concerned about one particular thing he did in the past. He recently revealed what his biggest regret in life is.

This is Elton John's biggest regret in life

Overall, the 72-year-old has lived a very fulfilling life. However, he recently opened up about his biggest regret and how he has managed to learn from it and gain wisdom from that experience. During an appearance on NBC's Todaywhere he promoted his new autobiography MeElton John shared that he regrets being addicted to cocaine during the 1970's and 1980's.

He explained he started to take drugs after someone he knew said it "makes you feel free." He thought it could be the perfect opportunity to change his personality, since he was often an introverted and reclusive person, "I thought, ‘This is the drug that has opened me up. I can converse, I can be verbose,'" he revealed.

Elton John came very close to death due to substance abuse

The English singer also revealed that his cocaine use was so frequent that he was close to death more than once... but not even that made him stop. "I would have an epileptic seizure and turn blue, and people would find me on the floor and put me to bed, and then 40 minutes later I’d be snorting another line," John said.

However, it was in 1990 when he got a wake-up call after one of his closest friends, Ryan White, passed away from AIDS. During his appearance on Today he recalled "Coming back to the hotel and complaining about the wallpaper, the décor in the room, and thinking, ‘You are the most ungrateful little bastard. You complain about everything. This boy has never complained about contracting HIV and AIDS from a blood transfusion."

Almost three decades sober and counting...

Elton John began his sobriety process six months after his friend's death. Since then he has been sober for almost thirty years and has been an active philanthropist. In 1992 he started the Elton John AIDS Foundation to support people with HIV.

It's hard to imagine how Elton John's life would have been like if had he not stopped taking drugs. His fans are very happy to see him healthy, and extremely proud of him for taking the big step that changed his life in a positive way!
