In a recent interview, Lacey Chabert talked about what it was like getting to see her former Mean Girls castmates for the first time in years! Lacey Chabert took part in a virtual Mean Girls reunion last month as part of a special initiative to encourage people to vote! As Entertainment Tonight shares, Chabert— who played "Gretchen Wieners" in the iconic 2004 film— opened up about having the chance to get together with her former castmates, sharing why it was an incredible experience!
Chabert talks about experience of reuniting with castmates
Chabert explained why the Mean Girls reunion felt like a big deal to everyone involved. "For us to be together for the first time, all of us since making the movie was, we were all kind of emotional about it," the actress told Entertainment Tonight's Lauren Zima. Chabert was joined by Tina Fey, Rachel McAdams, Lindsay Lohan, Jonathan Bennett, Amanda Seyfried, and Lizzy Caplan for the event. Ana Gasteyer, Tim Meadows, Rajiv Surendra, and Daniel Franzese also made appearances at the reunion!
"A lot of us, just life has happened," she continued, "and there's children and marriages and all these beautiful events in life and to be able to catch up and be a part of something that's special." As Entertainment Tonight mentions, Chabert herself has experienced both of those major life events since filming Mean Girls! In 2013, she married David Nehdar, and the two welcomed daughter Julia several years later— who, according to Chabert, now thinks that her mom is a "princess"!
Chabert shares what she thinks "Gretchen" is up to now
Chabert also mentioned that she and the cast would be open to the idea of doing a potential Mean Girls sequel. "We didn't talk about it in the reunion, but I think I know most of us would definitely entertain that thought," the actress said. "I mean, playing Gretchen was one of the most fun characters I've ever played. I would love to see what she's doing now."
And as it turns out, Chabert has a clear vision of what her character is doing in the future! "I feel like Gretchen is running the toaster strudel empire and she probably ended marrying Jason [played by Daniel DeSanto] and they probably have like six babies," she said, referencing the fact that her character's father invented the popular treat!
