Actress Melissa McCarthy had little else left to prove. She's an Oscar-nominated actress who's also had major success on TV—where she's probably best known for playing the loving teacher "Molly Flynn" on Mike & Molly (2010-2016).
However, McCarthy stunned fans with an impressive makeover after her time on the show, losing a great deal of weight and setting a good example for her daughters. This is how the Bridesmaids and Spy star lost more than 70 pounds (approx. 35 kgs) of weight.
How Melissa McCarthy lost weight during Mike & Molly
After looking slimmer during a press event for The Boss, McCarthy spoke to ExtraTV and revealed what the secret was behind her weight loss.
"No trick, nothing to tell, just super boring life," McCarthy joked. "You bring it real down, you don't do anything fun and you go to bed at 7:30 — that's the trick."
Speaking to Good Housekeeping, she also said: "Sometimes I wish I were just magically a size six and I never had to give [my weight] a single thought." But McCarthy added she changed her routine in favour of leading a more balanced and healthy life. She incorporated basic exercises, eating every three hours and swapping carbohydrates for proteins, fruits and vegetables.
Melissa McCarthy's weight loss results revealed
McCarthy is rumoured to have lost more than 70 pounds (approx. 35 kilos!) during the six years that Mike & Molly aired (2010-2016).
Though it might seem like just another strategy to get validation in Hollywood, McCarthy's plan sticks to her parenting philosophy of leading by example and teaching self-respect to her daughters, Vivian and Georgette.
Encouraging her daughters to be receptive to compliments, she told People: "I hope it's one of many ways that I show my girls that it's okay to like who you are. It's okay that everybody's different. I always say to my girls, 'If we were all the same, we would all be robots.'"
McCarthy will appear next in a new Netflix series with her husband, Ben Falcone, with whom she celebrated 15 years of marriage in 2020.
