Taylor Swift talked about her latest single "Betty" while introducing it on country radio recently! As People shares, the song comes from Swift's new album folklore, and the singer has revealed the story behind it!

Swift says the story of "Betty" is told by a teenage boy

Swift shared that her song "Betty" uses characters that she invented to tell its story of young love. "[James] has lost the love of his life basically and doesn't understand how to get it back," she explained. "I think we all have these situations in our lives where we learn to really, really give a heartfelt apology for the first time."

"Everybody makes mistakes, everybody really messes up sometimes and this is a song that I wrote from the perspective of a 17-year-old boy," she continued. "I've always loved that in music you can kinda slip into different identities and you can sing from other people's perspectives. So that's what I did on this one."

Swift shares that characters are named "after my friends' kids"

Swift also confirmed a popular theory about her new song, which is the fact that its title revealed Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively's third daughter's name! "I named all the characters in this story after my friends' kids... and I hope you like it!" she said while talking about it on the radio.

The names of Reynolds and Lively's other daughters, Inez and James, appear in "Betty" as well! "You heard the rumors from Inez, you can't believe a word she says," Swift sings at one point.

Later on in the song, Swift also sings the lyric "She said, 'James, get in, let's drive." As People mentions, Swift is good friends with both Reynolds and Lively. James even made a vocal cameo on Swift's song "Gorgeous" in 2017!

Swift gets social media love from friend Blake Lively

Swift's album folklore received attention on social media from many celebrities after its surprise midnight release last month, including Lively! "Can we all please crawl inside that piano with you and live in this album.." Lively wrote on her Instagram story.

As People shares, Lively's comment references Swift's music video for her song "Cardigan," which is also from folklore. "Like you, Folklore is full of heart, soul, humor, passion, intelligence, wit, whimsy, reality, imagination, strength, vulnerability, and above all things: Love," Lively continued.

Now that Swift has confirmed that "Betty" is in fact the name of Reynolds and Lively's youngest daughter, fans who made the connection beforehand can feel proud that they uncovered one of the singer's infamous "Easter eggs"!
