- Kruger opens up about her screen test for Troy
Diane Kruger has found herself in some situations over the course of her career that haven't exactly been comfortable! As People shares, the star appeared at the Variety SXSW studio recently, where she opened up about her experiences as a woman in the industry.
Kruger says she "felt like meat" during screen test
Kruger had previously enjoyed a successful career as a model before becoming an actress. She shared that over the years, she was "put in situations that were so inappropriate and so uncomfortable." However, Kruger explained that she assumed this was just "what Hollywood is like" at the time, and didn't think too much of it.
The actress recalled a specific incident that happened to her back in the early 2000s during a screen test for the movie Troy. Kruger shared she was required to wear her costume to a meeting with a studio head, admitting she "felt like meat" as he looked her over. She said he asked her why she should play the part of "Helen of Troy," which she ended up landing.
Kruger didn't mince words when talking about her "uncomfortable" experience, saying she had "definitely come across the Weinsteins of this world from the get-go." Other actresses have also come forward years later to discuss uncomfortable auditions, including Thandiwe Newton, who revealed that feeling sexualized by the director caused her to pass up a role in Charlie's Angels.
