Liza Minnelli is distancing herself from inaccurate press coverage.

Last week, the Cabaret star was in the headlines for her reportedly budding friendship with recent Los Angeles transplants Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.

Specifically, on June 13, British tabloid The Sun published an article that detailed Minnelli's "unlikely friendship" with the couple and how she's provided guidance to them since they moved to L.A. in March

"Prince Harry sparks friendship with Hollywood icon Liza Minnelli who has helped him 'find his feet' in LA," the Sun's article was titled. A "friend" was cited as the publication's source.

The 74-year-old performer, however, has now revealed that this story is entirely untrue. On her Facebook page, she responded to the Sun piece, refuting the report.

"While I wish them well, I have never met Prince Harry and Meghan. Any statement to the contrary is a complete fabrication," Minnelli said.

The now falsified report linked Minnelli's supposed ties to the Sussexes to her past friendship with Princess Diana.

While Minnelli did make clear that the Sun's article was a fabrication, the reference to her one-time relationship with the late princess and mother of Prince Harry was based in fact.

Liza Minnelli and Princess Diana "talked about everything under the sun"

"I was lucky enough to count Princess Di as a friend," Minnelli revealed on a previous occasion, according to Hello!.

"I was first introduced to her when she came backstage after a concert I did in London," she recalled. "Then we'd bump into each other at premieres or events where she'd be the guest of honour. We'd fall into conversation then we'd meet for tea… My instinct was to protect her. We talked about everything under the sun. She loved music."

Lady Diana passed away tragically in a car crash in 1997. Her son, Prince Harry, has now relocated from the U.K. to Los Angeles, so it's possible that a future encounter between the Duke of Sussex and Minnelli could still be in the cards.

But, despite reports to the contrary, Minnelli has made it known that no such connection has occurred at this time.
