Meghan Markle's new movie: Disney's Elephants

Disney's Elephant was released earlier this month. Meghan had this to say about the new nature documentary:

"I am really grateful to be able to bring this story of elephants to life. I’ve been really lucky to be able to have hands-on experience with elephants in their natural habitat. When you spend time connecting to them in their wildlife you understand that we have a role to play in their preservation and their safety," she began.

"These creatures are so majestic and at the same time, they are so sensitive and so connected. You see in this film just how remarkable they are. Their memories are amazing, the close connection of the herd, the protectiveness of their young — I think they are a lot more like us than they are different."

"I hope that when people see this film they realize how connected we all are and if we had more of an awareness about the obstacles they are facing we would take care of each other, this planet and these animals in a very different way," she concluded.

The documentary was made in support of Elephants Without Borders. Though it came as Meghan's first post-royal film work, she actually recorded the voiceover in London last fall, before she and Prince Harry had announced their plan to step down as senior royals - which they did on March 31, 2020. Harry was by Meghan's side during the recording session, too.

Harry and Meghan also had previous experience with elephants, having visited Botswana and Elephants Without Borders in 2017. The filmmakers behind Elephant, Mark Linfield and Vanessa Berlowitz, later approached Meghan about narrating their documentary due to the royal couple's background with the majestic animal.
