Prince Harry and Prince William aren't exactly on the best of terms right now. As People shares, royal biographer Omid Scobie opened up about their troubled relationship in a new interview, sharing what led to the brothers becoming even more distant.

Harry and William "had not spoken" since summit

Harry and William's relationship had already become strained over the years. But as People mentions, Scobie opened up about a key event that caused tensions to escalate. "The brothers had not spoken since around the time of the Sandringham summit," Scobie told True Royalty TV on Monday, as first reported by The Sun. "Hurt continues to this day."

The Sandringham summit refers to the talks that took place back in January to decide Harry and Meghan's future after they stepped down from the royal family. Harry, William, Prince Charles, and Queen Elizabeth II were all involved in the conversation, which took place at the Queen's estate in Sandringham. "I think the distance between the brothers grew wider and wider," the co-author of Finding Freedom admitted.

Harry and Meghan's approach caused William "hurt"

Harry and William are said to have remained in touch throughout the year despite their rift. As People reports, sources say that the two were in contact during Prince Charles' battle with coronavirus, as well as during their children's birthdays! However, Scobie said that Harry and Meghan's approach to their exit was what caused further separation from William.

"I think really where it went wrong for Harry and Meghan and the Cambridges was that decision to go public with the road map to their new working model," he shared. "The statements weren’t discussed internally. That’s really what caused the most amount of hurt to William, because he wears two hats."

"He’s not just the brother, he’s also future king — and he felt that damaged the reputation of the family," Scobie went on to explain. "That it put family business out into the public domain when it should’ve been discussed privately." Months after leaving the royal family, Harry and Meghan have now bought a house in Santa Barbara. Also, Harry appeared on a surprise Zoom call from their new home!
