Ginny & Georgia is a new comedy-drama that premieres today on Netflix. Ten episodes are streaming now and critics can't help but compare the show to Gilmore Girls. Let's take a closer look at the new series.
Ginny & Georgia: Netflix show gets Gilmore Girls comparisons
Ginny & Georgia explores the mother-daughter relationship of 15-year-old "Ginny" and her eccentric mother "Georgia" as they settle in a new town while looking for a fresh start.
Netflix writes, "Angsty and awkward fifteen year old Ginny Miller often feels more mature than her thirty year old mother, the irresistible and dynamic Georgia Miller. After years on the run, Georgia desperately wants to put down roots in picturesque New England and give her family something they've never had... a normal life."
As the trailer previews, "Georgia" has a complicated past and attracts attention with her looks and behaviour wherever she goes. "It's not all carpool and Kombucha as Georgia's past threatens her and her family's new way of life... and Georgia will do anything to protect her family," Netflix teases.
As for those Gilmore Girls comparisons... most critics are drawing favourable connections to the popular mother-daughter series, some calling it a "bolder" and "more diverse" update, as Ginny & Georgia explores a mixed-race relationship and mother-daughter bond. Others, however, reacted less favourably to the "plethora" of Gilmore Girls references within the show — but it's still generating streaming-world buzz today.
