Kelly Clarkson recently opened up about an unfortunate experience she had early on in her career! As Entertainment Tonight shares, on Friday's episode of The Kelly Clarkson Show, the American Idol alum told Jennifer Love Hewitt how being on the reality show caused celebrities to be awful to her at an early red carpet event!

Clarkson says "everyone was so rude" on the red carpet

Clarkson brought up the story while in conversation with Hewitt, reflecting on how she had been mistreated. "People were really mean to us because we're from a talent show and it was the first season," she said. "Like, everyone was so rude to us, like, on the carpet. ...It was so bad. It was a horrible experience." However, the host acknowledged that Hewitt was one of the few who extended kindness towards her!

"You came up to me, ran up to me out of nowhere and were like, 'Oh my gosh, I'm really rooting for you,'" Clarkson told the singer and actress, recalling how supportive she had been. "You told me, 'Please keep the ones you love so close. It'll end up being about a few people in your life, unfortunately, but this business can be really hard.' You just gave me this advice that was really kind in such an unkind time for me personally. ...It meant the world to me. You were so nice."

Clarkson had American Idol reunion on her show in 2019

Clarkson was named the winner of American Idol in its first season, which aired in 2002. And in 2019, she had Simon Cowell, Paula Abdul, Randy Jackson, Ryan Seacrest, and runner-up Justin Guarini appear as guests on her show in a reunion special! She also virtually reunited with another American Idol winner, Jordin Sparks, on her show last year. But even though she's a superstar now, Clarkson has still been on the receiving end of criticism.

Last year, the host revealed that she was bodyshamed early in her career, shown photos of naked women on magazine covers the industry wanted her to emulate. And in August, she took to Twitter to defend herself against online trolls. However, Clarkson continues to acknowledge unkind comments directed her way with grace, staying true to herself and refusing to let the haters get the best of her!
