The studio shared the trailer for the upcoming superhero martial arts epic in honour of Simu Liu's birthday, and the actor couldn't contain his excitement. See how he reacted here!

Simu Liu's birthday ended up being a memorable one thanks to an unexpected gift from Marvel! On Monday, the star of upcoming superhero martial arts epic Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings gave fans an exclusive look at the movie— but little did he know the studio also had a surprise in store for him!

Liu teases official Shang-Chi movie poster with tweet

Liu took to Twitter to share the official poster for Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, which features him assuming a powerful pose as the titular character. Several glowing rings can be seen in the background behind him. "Whoever said that you could only RECEIVE presents on your birthday?" he tweeted. "Today, I’m giving you your VERY FIRST LOOK at the teaser poster for @ShangChi and the Legend of the Ten Rings!!"

The actor— who's also known for starring in the Canadian television series Kim's Convenience— also included a few details about his upcoming project in the tweet. He mentioned that Shang-Chi is set to be released on September 3, with the trailer dropping "in a few weeks." However, Liu definitely wasn't expecting the surprise that followed shortly afterwards, which came as a shock to both himself and all the Marvel fans out there!

Liu may have told fans that the trailer for Shang-Chi was set to be released sometime in the upcoming weeks, but as it turns out, Marvel had other plans! Less than half an hour after the actor shared the movie's poster, the official Twitter account for Marvel Studios made an epic reveal— they were dropping the trailer the same day, in honour of the action star's birthday!

"Happy Birthday @SimuLiu! We hope you enjoy your birthday present," they wrote alongside the exclusive video. Liu was completely floored by the early trailer release, sharing his genuine excitement about it with the rest of the internet! "WAIT WHAT?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!" he tweeted in response. He also shared the first-look footage, along with an excited keysmash as he declared the day "THE BEST BIRTHDAY EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
