Wilmer Valderrama has landed a major role as an iconic action hero! On Tuesday, Disney shared that Valderrama has been cast as the lead of their upcoming series Zorro, and the actor opened up about why the project is particularly meaningful to him.

Valderrama says Zorro is "a dream come true"

Valderrama talked about the significance of the representation that "Zorro" offers. He shared that "Zorro" played a pivotal role in his upbringing, seeing as he "was the one character that made me, as a Latino, feel like I could be a hero." Disney first introduced "Zorro," also known as "Don Diego de la Vega," to audiences back in 1957.

The NCIS star then mentioned he feels "a responsibility in the stories that I help bring to life" as a grown-up creative, expressing his delight in relaunching the franchise. He shared that having the opportunity to "be a part of the legacy for other children to know they too can be the heroes of their own stories" is something that's hugely impactful for him, calling it "a dream come true."

According to Disney Branded Television president Ayo Davis, Zorro is said to be "a compelling period piece, set in Pueblo de Los Angeles, but told in a very modern telenovela style." The project marks the actor's most recent team-up with Disney, as he recently lent his voice to the character "Agustín" in the new animated family musical Encanto
