Javier Bardem is in the works to play "King Triton" in Disney's upcoming live-action remake of The Little Mermaid. He would join the cast of Halle Bailey as "Ariel", Harry Styles as "Prince Eric" and it was reported that Melissa McCarthy might be playing the role of sea villain "Ursula". Awkwafina and Jacob Tremblay are also cast as "Ariel's" sidekicks, "Flounder" and "Sebastian".

Big Year for Disney Live-Action

The announcement of this new live-action remake comes after a big year for Disney in terms of live-action reboots of classic tales. Already this year, three live-action movies have hit theatres including Dumbo, Aladdin and most recently, The Lion King. A trailer for the upcoming Mulan reboot was officially dropped last week and that movie is expected to release in March 2020.
