• Queen Elizabeth II celebrated her 96th birthday
  • She seemed overjoyed after the party
  • The queen beams during recent engagement

Queen Elizabeth II already has a lot to celebrate this year! First she celebrated her 70th Jubilee on the throne in February, and this month, the monarch turned 96 years old on April 21.

The queen met with Swiss president and his wife

As the longest-reigning monarch in the British royal family, Queen Elizabeth II is happier than ever just after her birthday. The first pictures of her after the celebration show her with a big smile on her face— how beautiful! The photos were taken on April 28 at Windsor Castle during an audience with Ignazio Cassis, the President of Switzerland. For the occasion, the queen opted for a chic light blue paisley dress.

This is one of the few appointments that Queen Elizabeth II completed this year. In recent months she has been struggling with health problems and has been seen less and less in public. Instead of being present at engagements, she was represented by other royals, including her son Prince Charles, who took her place at this year's Commonwealth Day celebration.

Also interesting:

Prince William and Duchess Kate will also relieve the queen in the future and take over her duties. William is second in line to the throne after his father Prince Charles. There is also the chance that Prince Harry could return to the United Kingdom following the monarch's passing and assume royal duties again, although his wife Meghan Markle may be reluctant to go along with this.
