The photos of Prince Philip's emotional funeral were seen around the world.

His coffin, on which The Queen left a letter, was buried in the Royal Vault at St. George's Chapel. It was the first time this intimate moment was ever shown on camera. The burial in the historic vault had always been a family matter.

Prince Philip is buried in the Royal Vault — for now

Prince Philip currently rests next to royals such as George III, George IV, George V of Hanover, and Wilhelm IV. His mother Princess Alice was also laid to rest in the vault until, at her request, she was transferred to the Church of Mary Magdalene in Jerusalem.

But even the Duke of Edinburgh has not yet found his final resting place. His coffin will actually be relocated, but only when his wife Queen Elizabeth dies. Then the longtime couple will lie next to one another in a family crypt.

Once she passed on, the Queen and her husband will be interred at the King George VI Memorial Chapel, also located within St. George's Chapel.

Already resting there are the Queen's parents, George VI and The Queen Mother, as are the ashes of her sister Princess Margaret. The Queen and Prince Philip will eventually make it five royals in the chapel, which was competed in 1969.

Prince Philip died at age 99 on April 9, two months shy of his 100th birthday. His cause of death was revealed to be "old age."
